Remembering Harold
On February 24, 2011 the owner of River Hills Ranch, Harold W. Steele passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Harold purchased the land in 1994 and followed his passion to build a ranch and cattle herd. He was a dedicated, humble man who strived for perfection in everything he touched. He saw possibilities where others saw problems. He knew the value of hard work and never asked something to be done that couldn't be done.
Harold built one of the most beautiful ranches in South Dakota, with calving barns to shelter his young calving herd, gated pathways to make trailing cattle less stressful and more secure, updated farm equipment to plant and harvest more efficiently. He required all of us to take responsibility for the land, to keep it clean, to refrain from driving heavy equipment on soft ground, to manage the noxious weeds.
He was loved and respected by many friends and members of the community of Platte. The Platte Community Hospital was able to build a helipad with his generosity. Our motorcycle fund raisers gave back to the community he called his second home.
We are all blessed to have known him. To share in his vision. To hear his laughter. To become conscientious stewards of the land because of his passion.
Remembering Myron
On December 9, 2009 we lost our good friend and co-worker, Myron Plooster, who passed away unexpectedly. He was an important member of our cattle crew since 1997.
Myron was dedicated to his work and his three boys. He always had a smile and funny story to share. He was methodical in his work and you could always count on him. He loved to hunt and fish with his dad and his boys on the Missouri River.
Harold and Myron will be missed by their many friends.
